Message and Document Development for updated Supply Chain of a major UK Retail Company
The Challenge
We were asked by a well-known food retailer undergoing a rethink to their supply chain process to design the structure of their EDI Messages.
They needed to ensure that they communicated all the information required by the retailer from the supplier – such as product data, how and when the goods were shipped, and batch information. Allowing them to maintain this as the products are transhipped through their distribution centres and onto their stores.
The Process
We spent several days working with a team at the retailer to gain an understanding of their supply chain process and mapping out the important information that needed to be shared with their suppliers. We used our experience to identify which EDI messages were most suitable and how they could be used and structured to be efficiently used.
The Solution
We used our consultancy know how to map out and create documentation that they then distributed to their suppliers as specifications for the ongoing EDI/Integration project.
When the basic design was completed, we developed the Process and Message specification documentation – in the client’s livery – that could then be shared with the stakeholders in the supply chain.
The EDI messages were designed using the EANCOM standards.
